The Encyclopedia . . . of Utah?

Typically, when we think of an encyclopedia (if we think of one at all these days), the thought brings to mind a large collection of books containing all types of information about various subjects. In addition to general encyclopedias there are all types of specialized ones as well. Now you can add to the list The Encyclopedia of Utah – online.

This online encyclopedia has been compiled by the Utah Historical Society and contains digitized version of the various artifacts in their collection, as well as articles, photos, and other items.

Everything That’s Fit to Print – About Wyoming – Ever?

Newspapers have been called the first draft of history. Due in large part to the sheer volume of information contained in a single newspaper, old newspapers can be an invaluable tool for historical research. Given that, the Wyoming Legislature approved funds to establish the Wyoming Newspaper Project. The Project is an online, searchable archive of every newspaper in Wyoming printed between 1849 and 1922.

Happy Labor Day Weekend!

Many Americans are getting ready to celebrate Labor Day by having a cookout, getting out-of-town one last time before Fall, or enjoying a favorite activity on their extra day off. Around the country, Labor Day festivities including parades, parties, concerts, and more have become a tradition. Labor day officially became a U.S. holiday in 1894.

However, the State of Oregon was the first state to make it an official holiday seven years earlier in 1887. By the time the Federal government got around to recognizing the holiday, 30 states had already made it an official holiday.

Have a safe and happy Labor Day weekend!
