The Nebraska Historical Society operates a great web site for learning about Nebraska history. The site includes an interactive timeline across the top of the site so learners can easily zero in on a particular era of state history.
Probably the most famous landmark in South Dakota is Mt. Rushmore. For many Americans it is a rite of passage to take a family car trip to visit that monument. However, South Dakota has a rich history and multiple attractions of various types across the state.

The origin of state names are often obscure. Many eastern states are named after places or people significant to early English settlers. Many southwestern states take their name from their Spanish colonial origins.

Oklahoma State University maintains a wonderful site dedicated to Oklahoma history and culture. The site, called the Encyclopedia of Oklahoma History & Culture, is focused on informing and educating citizens, students, historians, and the world at large about the fascinating history of Oklahoma. The Encyclopedia contains articles written by leading scholars in the field and is published by the Oklahoma Historical Society. The online edition is presented by the Oklahoma State University Library Electronic Publishing Center.
