Many Americans are getting ready to celebrate Labor Day by having a cookout, getting out-of-town one last time before Fall, or enjoying a favorite activity on their extra day off. Around the country, Labor Day festivities including parades, parties, concerts, and more have become a tradition. Labor day officially became a U.S. holiday in 1894.
However, the State of Oregon was the first state to make it an official holiday seven years earlier in 1887. By the time the Federal government got around to recognizing the holiday, 30 states had already made it an official holiday.
